Following a third successful renewal ballot, Milngavie will continue as a Business Improvement District until 2029.
Milngavie businesses have provided strong support to the Milngavie Business Improvement District with a resounding 88.46% Yes vote by number and 95% by rateable value, to ensure the events, projects and services will continue to be delivered. Official announcement of the results on the East Dunbartonshire website was announced on 1st February 2024 after the vote in January.
The vote took place 3 months before the end of the second term to allow the BID team to plan ahead. By 30th April 2024 Milngavie had been a BID area for ten years; and the BID team were able to hit the ground running with the annual car show that was a huge success.
To celebrate the achievements of the last 10 year’s of the Milngavie BID, an evening reception was arranged in Gavin’s Mill. Guest speakers from Milngavie First Responders; Sky TV AdSmart and the BID team, were well received with a positive outlook for the future.

After setting up the original BID steering group in 2013 and eventually getting a Business Improvement District established in Milngavie, Ian has announced his retirement from the BID.
Ian said “it’s been a pleasure and an honour to see how Milngavie has developed over the last 10 years. We have managed to put in place many initiatives that the BID team deliver and improve upon each year. I believe we are in good hands, so now it’s time to hand over the reigns to the new generation of business owners.”
The business community are being asked to join the volunteer board of directors. The role mainly involves overseeing the work completed by the BID team on a month to month basis and ensure the projects listed in the business plan are delivered.
Members of the East Dunbartonshire Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets (PNCA) Committee approved the BID Business Plan at a meeting in November. The Council will provide a voluntary contribution of £180,000 over the five-year term of the BID.
Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of PNCA, said, “I’m very pleased that the Milngavie BID has once again secured the support of so many local businesses – its third successful ballot result. Congratulations to all involved.
“The BID provides local traders, hospitality venues and services with a collective voice – helping to guide regeneration, investment and initiatives. Working together we can build on the huge amount that has been achieved over the last 10 years.”
The results of the Milngavie BID ballot were:
- Total number of valid votes cast in the ballot – 78
- Total number of votes cast in favour of the proposed BID for Milngavie – 69 (88.46%)
- Total number of votes cast against – 9 (11.54%)
- Votes cast (156 eligible business properties) – 50%.
